I recently told you about the United Autoworkers (UAW) union hierarchy's "card check" instant organizing scheme to corral Volkswagen workers in Tennessee into unionization without a secret-ballot election.

Now, with free legal aid from Foundation staff attorneys, eight Volkswagen workers have filed federal unfair labor practice charges against UAW union bosses for violating their rights in the card check campaign.

You see, Volkswagen workers report that union bosses lied to them by claiming that a signature on the card would only be used to call for a secret-ballot unionization election.

And UAW union bosses are scheming to make it "easy to check in, but impossible to check out".

Workers who have asked for their signatures on "union authorization cards" to be revoked have been told they must physically visit the UAW headquarters to get their cards returned to them.

But Volkswagen workers are circulating a petition they obtained at the Foundation's website stating they oppose granting the UAW monopoly bargaining status and revoke any past signed cards.

The case underscores the critical need for both the Foundation's legal aid and public information programs.

Foundation spokesmen have been regularly quoted in the local press, helping ensure that workers have the information they need to combat the one-sided propaganda from the UAW hierarchy.

Not only that, the workers who turned to the Foundation for free legal aid did so after learning about the Foundation's offer of legal assistance to Volkswagen Chattanooga employees being subjected to the UAW card check drive.

It's vital we continue to be able to inform workers about their rights and provide free legal assistance to workers fighting back.

That's especially true in cases like this when union and company officials meet behind closed doors to negotiate a "deal" that could deny workers the opportunity to vote according to their conscience in a secret-ballot vote as opposed to the abuse-prone card check process.
