The United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit issued a ruling today in the medical marijuana reclassification case, Americans for Safe Access v. Drug Enforcement Administration. In a 2-1 decision, the Court granted standing in the case — the right to bring a claim against the federal government — but denied the legal challenge on the merits, agreeing with the government’s assertion that “adequate and well-controlled studies” on the medical efficacy of marijuana do not exist.

This fight and many others are absolutely critical to maintain our Second Amendment freedoms as well. But it’s no wonder the gun-grabbers believe right now is their best chance ever to ram through the so-called "Small Arms Treaty" -- their ultimate prize. President Obama has already announced he’s prepared to throw the full weight of his presidency behind enacting new gun control schemes. And as I mentioned, the U.N. will meet soon to pass a final version of the "Small Arms Treaty" to be sent for ratification by the Senate. But even worse than a renewed mandate, the General Assembly could vote by simple majority to implement the "Small Arms Treaty." This would bypass any further meetings and would allow them to insist that member states ratify the treaty immediately. So if you and I are going to defeat them, we have to turn the heat up on Washington now before it’s too late!

The power of the purse plays a critical role in the relationship of the United States Congress and the President of the United States, and has been the main historic tool by which Congress can limit executive power.It would be unseemly for the president to snatch this power from Congress, so we are being treated to what is possibly some carefully choreographed performance art in which Obama is portrayed as being dragged kicking and screaming into usurping Congress.
In the event that Republicans make good on their threat by failing to act, or by moving unilaterally to pass a debt limit extension only as part of an unbalanced or unreasonable legislation, we believe you must be willing to take any lawful steps to ensure that America does not break its promises and trigger a global economic crisis — without congressional approval, if necessary.Consider just how frightening this sounds: Mr President, do what you must, Congress be damned.
The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.But as David Rivkin Jr. and Lee Casey note in Friday’s Wall Street Journal, failure to raise the debt ceiling doesn’t mean America’s creditors wont get their money. Those obligations remain and must be paid.
